I've purchased VanGuard, as well as MetalGuard Ultra, ProtecTool Wax Polish & Restore Rust Remover from Matthew at Workshop Heaven.... I have a few new expensive tools that I naturally want to keep rust free, a few existing tools I've cleaned up and a few old antique saws that I'm hoping the Restore Rust Remover will take care of........ any experience of what Restore Rust Remover may do to the makers saw plate etchings ? Some are deep, others are very light.

I have to be honest, I applied a small drop of neat fluid, off the tip of a cocktail stick - (just a 3mm diameter bead) onto one of the rustier saws yesterday evening and saw the bubble blacken up within 10 seconds - immediately washed it off and was astonished at the matt grey clean perfect 3mm circle I was left with. Holding it up to the sunlight it literally sparkled......... I know it needs to be diluted, was just curious... curiosity satisfied! I will adopt the correct procedure on the whole saw plate in a very shallow close fitting tray.

The saw restoration was a complete successes (as the photos show) - Restore Rust Remover really cleaned up the plate and restored the original "silvered" finish in the non-rusty areas - gives a very good impression of exactly what this saw looked like when new. I'm unsure of its age. The plate is stamped, not etched - I would hazard a guess at early/mid Victorian.

Just like to say that, initially sceptical, I am now very impressed with the results and have another 6 saws that will be receiving the same treatment !

Suffice to say the Metalguard Ultra and ProtecTool Wax Polish are working on the tools in the drawers & cupboards
- no signs of rust on the new, or cleaned up tools. The Vanguard will be used on the exposed machinery.

Very pleased with the investment - confident that I've found the products I need to keep the rust at bay.
